Sustainability has long been part of Ratio’s DNA. Every day, we make conscious choices to reduce our environmental impact. From using recycled aluminium and working with local partners to reducing packaging materials. We can now formally demonstrate this approach. Ratio has achieved ISO 14001 certification, marking a clear step towards structured and measurable environmental management.
What is ISO 14001?
ISO 14001 is an international standard for environmental management. It helps organisations manage areas such as energy use, waste streams, material choices and environmental impact more effectively. It is not a one-off project, but a structured way of working. ISO 14001 focuses on defining processes, setting clear objectives and continuously improving how sustainability is embedded in day-to-day operations.

From ISO 9001 to ISO 14001
Alongside ISO 14001, Ratio is also certified to ISO 9001, the international standard for quality management. ISO 9001 supports the structured organisation and improvement of quality processes, ensuring reliable and consistent products. ISO 14001 naturally builds on this foundation. Where ISO 9001 provides a strong quality framework, ISO 14001 represents the next step towards environmental management. Together, they bring quality and sustainability into one coherent way of working.
What we already do and continue to build on
ISO 14001 builds on choices we have been making for years. These practices remain central to how we work:
- Our latest charging station, the Ratio io7, is made from recycled aluminium, combining strength, design and circularity.
- All our wall-mounted chargers are designed with low standby power consumption, reducing energy use every day.
- Repairability is a core principle. Wherever possible, products are repaired in our own workshop.
- At the end of their lifecycle, our products are designed for easy disassembly and recycling.
- We work with a local social enterprise, where people with barriers to employment contribute to the production of our products.
- Manufacturing takes place in the Netherlands and the UK, with suppliers selected locally wherever possible to reduce transport distances, improve supply chain transparency and lower CO₂ emissions.
- We actively reduce packaging materials, because sustainability is often found in the details.
- Solar panels on our office roof supply energy for production and our electric vehicle fleet.
This approach forms the foundation for our continued development, now guided by ISO 14001 as a clear new compass.
